It's been a busy month since I last wrote an update here on the blog. I've continued battling all the lovely winter germs my toddler brings home from nursery but also managed to fit in some great outdoor time with the little one and the dog. We all love exploring the woods in leafy Surrey where we live, and I keep finding inspiration in the forest for my books that I have planned for later this year and next. You can follow me on Instagram where I share photos every week.
Awards and Fame
In my other 'life' as a dog blogger and dog writer, the Institute of Dog Writers of America awarded me with the best Dog Breed book of the year award and as you might imagine that was incredibly exciting. I'm now an award-winning author, yay! As you can see from the photos the fame hasn't gone over our heads just yet though.
The London Book Fair
Last week I went to the London book fair and went to some great seminars about the future of children's books and current trends. It seems the books are getting bigger in size, and non-fiction for kids is on the rise (think famous women that shaped the world type books).
It was also incredibly inspiring to hear about the humble beginnings for classics such as the Gruffalo, and how they set up stage plays for Roald Dahl's books. I also became a member of the Alliance of Independent Authors and made some new author friends which was lovely.
Easter Book Update
You're probably wondering what's going on with the Easter book I mentioned a while back. In all honesty, the nursery germs got my schedule off track a little at the beginning of the year, and then my lovely designer also got ill so we're a little behind schedule. The good news is the book is looking lovely and it will definitely be out before Easter but it's not quite done yet.
The working title is "The Easter Party - Påskfesten" and it’s a cute story for 3-6-year-olds about the hare Hoppe who's a very busy bunny preparing for something very eggciting. I'm sending it off to my editor for Swedish proofreading today and then it's time for the translations and finalising the graphics. I'll keep you posted.
